The Northumbria Branch of the OUGS welcomes you!
The branch covers a large area bounded by North Yorkshire in the South, Cumbria to the west and the Scottish border in the North. There is some of the best geology in the country in our rather large patch. The branch actively promotes fieldtrips and has a small group of regular attendees but always likes to see new faces whenever possible.
We operate two types of field trip - the regular type led by an expert in his or her field and the DIY type. The DIY trips are rarely led by an expert, only requiring the enthusiasm of one of the branch members to pull out a field guide and be prepared for criticism if it rains!
We try to vary locations around the region so that we get a good spread of local geology. For those who wish to socialise at the end of the day we sometimes end up in a local pub for a bite to eat (though this is not compulsory).

Details of expert led field trips and other events appear in the OUGS and Branch newsletters as well as on the Events pages of this site. There is also an e-mail list which is used to notify the membership of all event updates, late changes and meeting locations and times for the above.
