West Scotland Branch Website

Geology and Earth Related Sciences for All

West Scotland Branch covers the West Highlands, Western Isles, Argyll, West Central Scotland, Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway.

Some of the classic areas of British geology are to be found in West Scotland from the 3000 million year old Lewisian gneiss - the oldest rocks in Britain, through the Skye igneous complex and Ballantrae ophiolites to the World Heritage Site at Dobbs Linn, the Ordovician/Silurian boundary reference.

Field trips are organised throughout the year, day trips, weekends and usually one week-long trip in the summer.

Lindsay Hamilton Trophy

This year's Lindsay Hamilton Trophy was awarded by David Hamilton at the annual Burns Supper at Pitlochry to Margaret Donnelly for services to the Branch.
