Welcome
Geology and Earth Related Sciences for All
The Northumbria Branch of the OUGS welcomes you!
The branch covers a large area bounded by North Yorkshire in the South, Cumbria to the west and the Scottish border in the North. There is some of the best geology in the country in our rather large patch. The branch actively promotes fieldtrips and we always like to see new faces.
We operate two types of field trip - the regular expert led field trips and DIY days. The DIY days are informal and less structured, only requiring the enthusiasm of one or two of the branch members to pull out a field guide and help the rest of us explore a locality. We vary locations around the region so that we get a good spread of local geology. For those who wish to socialise at the end of the day we usually end up in a local pub for a bite to eat! The branch also runs further field trips abroad. Previous locations include Cyprus and Almeria. These are usually week long trips expertly led by branch organiser Dr. Paul Williams (who many people will know from OU summer schools).

If you wish to attend any of our field trips please see the events section (left) for contact details and precise meeting places and times. It helps organisers/leaders if you let them know you are likely to attend so that no one gets left behind but do just turn up if the fancy takes you.
