The White Cliffs, The North and South Downs, The Weald - plus much more!
Welcome to the website for the South East Branch of the Open University Geological Society. This site provides information on events organised by our branch that will take place during the year and some information and photos from previous events.
Our branch covers the south eastern tip of the British Isles and has a wealth of different types of geology. The most well known is of course the chalk, particularly on the South and North Downs but we also have a variety of other rock types within the Weald of Kent and the other areas we cover and many contain interesting fossils.
The main header image on our site is of an area of the chalk cliffs between Broadstairs and Margate on the Isle of Thanet situated on the Eastern tip of Kent.
The three smaller images at the head of this page are from field trips within our local area and show Ragstone at Dryhill Country Park, Sevenoaks, Charing Sand Pit, Charing, East Kent and Peters Pit (Chalk) near Maidstone.
