Hello Everybody.
Welcome to our 2012 AGM edition of Geo-Log. As you may already know, we largely re-elected our committee this time, apart from our Geo-Log Editor Patricia Thomas and WebManager Mike Moores, who both stepped down after several years of service to our branch. We thanked them heartily for their work and wish them well. We now welcome Helen Durrant as our new Newsletter Editor and also Joanna Dickerson as our new WebManager. Joanna will soon put our AGM minutes on our website, in the "Members Only" area. Do take a look at any time.
Last October, your committee decided not to organise a Spring 2012 field trip so close to the Minoan Volcano Tour (Santorini). However, London branch are having a field day out at Kensworth and other chalk quarries (Dunstable Downs) in April, that we can all join. This may include a picnic as well! Great fun. In July, Dr Jill Eyers will organise a day trip to another field location, yet to be finalised. Later, in September, we intend to run a weekend field trip to the Derbyshire Peak District. The Events List will show all of the details shortly.
The 2012 Symposium is right on our doorstep this year, at the University of Northampton. The theme is the celebration of "40 years of the OUGS". We are strongly involved at Walton Hall and hope you all will come and celebrate with us. We would appreciate any offers of help.
Keep an eye on our Events Lists and adverts in the newsletters and on the website ougs.org.
Don't forget, we have a wonderful collection of books, maps, field guides, etc. available for borrowing by any member. Have a look on ougs.org. If you see something in the Walton Hall branch library collection that you want to borrow, let us know and we will get it for you.
Finally, if you’d like to get more involved, come and join us at our meetings in Milton Keynes or at our field events, or even join our committee. If you're studying, good luck with your courses!
Best Wishes,
Tom
PS – Continued thanks to all those who have chosen to have Geo-Log delivered by email. The Society really appreciates it.
