About the Competition An annual event for members held at the AGM. Founded in memory of Moyra Eldridge, keen photographer and one time Organiser of the Walton Hall Branch.
The competition rewards the keen eyed as well as the skilled photographer. Visual evidence of geological features is very important for illustrating geological research and educational texts - so photography is an important part of field work - particularly for ephemeral features and in situ structures that cannot be taken back to the laboratory. Our photographs also allow us to share our extensive field observations with all of our members, and visitors to our web site.
There was a good selection of photographs for this years competition presented at the 2010 AGM in April, such that the judges had a difficult job selecting three winners from the entries. No doubt AGM attendees had a similar problem selecting just one for the popular vote. Due to time restrictions after the AGM there are no Highly Commended entries for 2010.
